Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of Gunzhen Bojin therapy for the treatment of patients with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy based on the muscle⁃joint equal emphasis theory. Methods A total of 64 patients with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy were selected, and they were randomly assigned to control group or observation group, with 32 cases in each group. The control group received routine therapy (cervical traction therapy+health education), based on which the observation group received combined application of Gunzhen Bojin therapy. The simplified McGill pain scale score in terms of pain rating index (PRI) score, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score, present pain intensity (PPI) score, and neck disability index (NDI) before treatment, after 5 and 10 days of treatment were compared between patients of the two groups, and clinical efficacy after 10 days of treatment was evaluated in both groups. Results There were statistically significant differences in PRI score, VAS score, and NDI between the two groups (P<0.05), whereas there was no statistically significant difference in PPI score between the two groups (P>0.05). PRI, VAS and PPI score, as well as NDI of both groups depicted a trend with changes over time (P<0.05). There was interaction effect between grouping and time (P<0.05). The results of further separate effects analysis revealed that after 5 and 10 days of treatment, the observation group exhibited lower scores of PRI, VAS and PPI, and lower NDI as compared with the control group (P<0.05). The recovery effective rate of the observation group was higher than that of the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion On the basis of routine therapy, combined application of Gunzhen Bojin therapy can more prominently ameliorate pain symptom and cervical function of patients with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy, exerting superior therapeutic effect, and being worthy of clinical application and promotion.
