Objective To explore the application effect of independent mouth⁃opening exercise combined with multifunctional mouth⁃opening training device in patients with radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Methods A total of 90 patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma receiving radiotherapy were selected as the research subjects, and they were randomly divided into group A, group B, or group C, with 30 cases in each group. Group A adopted independent mouth⁃opening exercise, group B received mouth⁃opening exercise assisted by multifunctional mouth⁃opening training device, whereas group C accepted independent mouth⁃opening exercise combined with mouth⁃opening exercise assisted by multifunctional mouth⁃opening training device. The compliance of mouth⁃opening exercise, inter⁃incisors distance, and the difficulty of mouth⁃opening were compared between patients of the three groups before radiotherapy, at the end of radiotherapy, and 3, 6, and 12 months after radiotherapy. Results At the end of radiotherapy and 3, 6 and 12 months after radiotherapy, the compliance of mouth⁃opening exercise was successively elevated, and inter⁃incisor distance was enlarged successively in patients of group A, group B, and group C (P<0.05). At 12 months after radiotherapy, the difficulty in mouth⁃opening of patients in group A, group B, and group C decreased successively (P<0.05). Conclusion independent mouth⁃opening exercise combined with mouth⁃opening exercise assisted by multifunctional mouth⁃opening training device can improve the compliance of mouth⁃opening exercise in patients with radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma, prevent narrowing of inter⁃incisor distance, decrease the incidence rate of difficulty in mouth⁃opening, and is helpful to improve long⁃term quality of life in patients.
