Objective To investigate the willingness for thalassemia screening among residents in Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone, and to analyze its influencing factors. Methods A convenience sampling method was used to select residents in Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone for an electronic questionnaire survey. The multivariate Logistic regression model and decision tree model were employed to analyze factors influencing screening willingness of thalassemia. Results A total of 12 708 valid questionnaires were collected. The proportion of willingness for thalassemia screening was 92.14%, with awareness score of thalassemia-related knowledge in 26.06±5.65. Primary source-acquisition channels of thalassemia-related knowledge included hospital/school-based health campaigns (35.23%). Age, educational level, occupation, thalassemia-related knowledge, and thalassemia-related knowledge acquisition channels were the influencing factors for screening willingness of thalassemia among residents in Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone (P<0.05). Conclusions Residents in Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone demonstrate relatively high willingness for thalassemia screening. Age, educational level, occupation, thalassemia-related knowledge awareness status, and thalassemia-related knowledge acquisition channels are the influencing factors for their willingness for thalassemia screening.
