Objective To understand the current awareness status of monkeypox knowledge among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Nanning, and to analyze its influencing factors. Methods A total of 501 MSM were recruited as the investigation subjects from social organization sentinel sites in Nanning of Guangxi by responder⁃driven sampling method. A self⁃designed questionnaire was used to perform investigation. The monkeypox knowledge awareness status was compared between MSM with different socio⁃demographic characteristics, sexual behavior characteristics, HIV infection and syphilis infection. Multivariate Logistic regression model was used to analyze the factors for influencing the awareness status of monkeypox knowledge among MSM. Results There was a statistically significant difference in awareness status of monkeypox knowledge between MSM with different educational level, identity, number of homosexual partners, whether to understand the physical condition of sexual partners and whether to worry about monkeypox virus infection (P<0.05). The results of multivariate analysis revealed that MSM with educational level of graduate or above, identity as cadres/employees, having more than 2 homosexual partners and worrying about monkeypox virus infection had a higher awareness rate of monkeypox knowledge (P<0.05). Conclusion The awareness rate of monkeypox knowledge is relatively low among MSM in Nanning. MSM who has an educational level of graduate or above, whose identity was cadres/employees, who has more than 2 homosexual partners and worries about being infected with monkeypox virus has higher awareness rate of monkeypox knowledge.
