Objective To explore the construction approaches of a think tank platform based on medical academic journals, thus providing a platform for strategic and comprehensive planning in the health and wellness undertakings. Methods Taking Guangxi Medical Journal as the research subject, case analysis method was used to summarize the construction paths of a medical academic journal⁃based think tank platform in terms of feasibility assessments, selection of experts, cultivation of scholar⁃oriented editors, and enhancement of the journal platform's communication capacity, and to analyze the effectiveness, existing deficiencies of the think tank platform construction, so as to propose corresponding improvement measures. Results Papers published on the think tank platform primarily focus on issues such as high⁃quality development of health and wellness undertakings, medical reform, cross⁃border medical and health service cooperation, New Quality Productive Forces, prevention and control of major diseases and infectious diseases, and the Third⁃Child Policy, which could provide corresponding decision⁃making support for the government and relevant health administrative departments. The accurate push of think tank papers based on academic precise communication system helped to improve the dissemination and attention of columns. However, there were still some shortcomings in the construction of the think tank platform, such as insufficient construction level of the editorial team, “difficulty for experts to participate”, and limited dissemination channels with monotonous formats, etc. Conclusion Taking the achievements and advantages in the field of health care as important think tank resources, constructing a think tank platform based on medical academic journals can provide ideas, methods and models for the high⁃quality development of health and wellness undertakings.
